What do cats think about all day?

They just sit there in one position staring into the middle distance. They move their head in response to a sound, then move it back to the original position. They might meow when they want to eat, then return to sedentary mode. Surely a cat's life must be the epitome of boredom?

Our previous cat used to go through the cat flap in the kitchen door, climb over the side gate and sit on the drive meowing waiting to be let in. She would do this constantly every day.
Our current cat just meow's all day wanting to eat, in between staring at the ceiling. Mind you our dog stares at the ceiling too, I am convinced my house is haunted.

Cats are fabulous pets, they have a mystery about them. When they want fuss, they will give you fuss, when they want food, they let you know. The rest of the time they do their own thing.

That happened to a friend of a friend type person I knew, ironsofcanada.
She hadn't been seen for a while, and her neighbour called the police because of the smell.
They broke in to find the cat had chowed down on her to survive.

To be fair, they say most animals would, in that situation, but it just seems like a particularly cat thing to do.

In that scenario, and in the event that said pussy sees in you a kindred spirit, you could explain that close-looking games have a good chance of ending in a draw. Of course, the cat may be too thick to understand that.

Ours is out on a jolly all night every night in the surrounding fields, occasionally dropping in with a mouse, vole or bird, whichever he fancies entertaining himself with at that time, then spends his days sleeping wherever he chooses with some eating either side.
I’d say his has a fantastic routine, in his eyes.

Ours growing up were outside cats except for the harshest bits of winter.
Very useful if you have a huge garden and tried to store food like we did.

All cats are different. We've had a number over the years and they can be outdoorsy wandering for miles Toms to indoorsy sleepy daydreamers.
Currently we don't own a cat but the next door neighbour has six and the youngest comes around all the time and for all intents might as well be ours BUT we never feed it so it always goes back for food. We know it goes in several other neighbours houses too so is a proper slag but generally comes in to sleep or just check things out.
They are sociable and domesticated but no two cats are the same.
